So, apart from my other long-running Gemini chats, I also have a dedicated chat for laundry. This started as me searching for general laundry tips but eventually shifted to a more focused Gemini thread so I can feed in more specific information, including our model of washing machine. And today my oxygen bleach powder arrived from Lazada, so I'm going to put some of this research to the test. My current goal is to address some of our white towels and shirts that have discolorations (e.g., where you typically wipe your hands on a towel) or outright stains (curse you, Korean sauces!) to see what can be done to bring them back to their former pristine glory.
The only thing I didn't want to use was regular bleach, as I have seen too many clothes become rags after an improperly diluted addition of bleach to a load. So I was surprised to find out that there's a more color-safe alternative known as oxygen bleach, which is the basis for a lot of color-safe cleaning solutions on the market. This whole avenue of research just stressed that my laundry practices were largely those I had adopted from my mom and my grandmother. Laundry science has progressed significantly since my early laundry years, and it was kind of mind-blowing to read about the current practices out there. This includes revelations like that I should retire my use of fabric softener in favor of the occasional use of white vinegar and other things.
But let's see how this oxygen bleach effort works out first. If there's still a chance of reviving these particular towels, then I'll be convinced of the veracity of all the new science or whatever.
