The way the lines between regular Google Search and Google AI Search have blurred means "using" AI feels like a near inevitability. And while I still feel that generative AI isn't meant to be a creative tool (enough with the AI flyers!), I can't deny its utility as an assistant. I'm too much of a Trekkie to deny that I enjoy keying in instructions into an AI bot and waiting to see how it resolves my query. If anything, the current integration of AI in search has led to more meaningful responses sooner, but also some minor frustrations when I want to revisit a chat I had with the search AI, but that gets lost once I move on to another page. My personal and work instances of Gemini are my primary assistants in various things.
Case in point, I have a running chat dedicated to the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Sarah Duterte that I rely on for summaries and some basic analysis. I still read news articles on my own, but the AI at least helps me avoid the need to watch the livestream, which will more likely add to my daily stress. I've even had it use the questions and manifestations of the senator-judges to get a feel for where everyone stands and who is the most egregious in terms of partisan arguments.
My other big AI project is still related to making the Geeky Guide a secondary source of income. I've been at this since February, and I'm nowhere near the level of web traffic I need to qualify for better ad networks. I at least got approved for Google AdSense on the site, but I haven't actually earned anything from those ads just yet. I fed all of my Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Bing Webmaster Tools data into Gemini, along with my timeline of activities and key events, just to come up with a more robust analysis of the site's progress. I have a bit of a plan in place for what to do next, but it's still a rather lengthy road ahead before the site becomes profitable.
