Apart from everything else that I've been working on, today I decided to put together another report to start keeping tabs on another KPI. It's supposed to be one of those no-brainer metrics, but we've changed our tech stack over the last year, which has added a bit of complexity to our usual management processes. I probably should have done this sooner, but it only came to mind now and so it made for a decent little project for the afternoon. I have the numbers now and can start sharing this in future meetings. I knew the results wouldn't be ideal, but that's just how it goes.
In other news, we had a bit of a discussion today about one of the challenges of hybrid/remote work, especially when you're trying to be the sort of trusting organization that empowers instead of dictating. But there's a fine line between generosity and abuse and it's never easy navigating that particular knife's edge. But given our specific situation, some steps do need to be taken to rectify certain things. I hope things work out for the best in the long term. We've been trying to chart a very different path for the company over the past year and that sort of organizational transformation is never easy - or without its own share of growing pains.
In lighter news, I've yet to talk about the fact that my first batch of Alpaka Black Friday purchases arrived over the weekend and I've shifted to using my Flight Sling as an Every Day Carry (EDC) bag. It's just big enough to hold my Kindle Oasis along with other items and I'm experimenting with shifting my keys to the included mod key tether instead of my old carabiner. It still takes some getting used to as now my pants/shorts pockets are left largely empty with everything that I used to stow in my pockets now living in the bag. I technically have greater carrying capacity now and I don't make key-jangling noises as I walk, so that's something.
I've also shifted Tobie over to the Zip Coin Pouch as his wallet replacement, and he seems generally happy with it. As it is more of a minimalist wallet solution, he still had to cut down on what he brings in the wallet. But it's still a more efficient wallet - plus it came in a nice rich green color.
I still have another order coming because I split it to avoid tax complications. Plus both orders have included gifts for different people, so we'll see how it all comes together.
