While trying to book a ride to the airport this morning, I found myself wondering if the timing for this flight wasn't ideal. Today is often marked as the anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines, and it always comes with its share of protests. There was also news of transport strikes this week, given the constantly rising prices of fuel due to the continuing conflict in Iran. It was the first time I tried booking a Green GSM ride and....I never found a driver. Not sure if that was related to everything happening today or just the fact that we're in the South. So I defaulted to Grab and got a ride soon enough. So all that worrying about events that might complicate traffic was a bit for naught.
Traffic between home and the airport was pretty minimal, but I had opted to take the Skyway just in case. There were no significant queues at the check-in counter or Immigration, so I actually blitzed through the initial airport stuff in under 15 minutes, which feels almost crazy versus past experiences. That left me with more time to explore the Terminal, including visiting the new food hall even if I didn't buy anything there. The plane left the airport on time, and we arrived a little late due to airport congestion, but we're talking like 5 minutes late.
I got picked up at the airport because my younger nephew insisted. Apparently, he had a lot to tell me, and it was a near-continuous stream of updates and factoids all the way through dinner back at home. I've had to transform new Transformers and watch particular videos. And we dissected a toy fish, then had to put it back together for future dissection sessions.
I'm reminding myself used to an earlier wake-up schedule while I'm here, since I'm no longer in fully remote work mode. Wish me luck.
