0304F: Reconnection Efforts

Tuesday - Tahanan Pork Sinigang Lunch

So my birthday weekend had a great big gap of nothing in terms of planned activities, and now things are beginning to get slotted into my schedule. I still don't have like traditional birthday plans apart from a modest celebration at O Bar on Thursday night (salubong!), but at least there's some more meaningful stuff planned. My Facebook update about O Bar starting to feel (ironically) lonely as of late triggered a number of conversations with friends we haven't seen in a while.

Since Tobie has a signing event at Fully Booked BGC on Saturday, it has become a good opportunity to reconnect with friends based in the area. We probably could have tried to arrange something earlier, but better late than never, I suppose. I don't need a big party to celebrate my birthday. But I would like to spend time with people important to me. That feels like a more meaningful way to mark another orbit around the sun.

Our social orbit has been getting smaller and smaller over the past year. Initially, I wanted to attribute the changes to our move to the South, which is a factor but not a huge one. But so many other things have changed, and we're feeling more and more insular. I'm introverted to begin with, and when people pull away, it becomes easier to just leave them alone and move on, even if things end up as just me and Tobie again. And all this explains the rather weird birthday weekend ahead.

Hay. I'm supposed to be too old to change my routine, but here we are.
