I'm still rather tired from yesterday, but I'm glad that we still insisted on pushing through with the game night. Last night's festivities are just about as close as I'll get to a big birthday celebration this year, I think.
First, we played a good mix of games, even if Tobie and I arrived late. We missed the initial games - Namiji and Viticulture. Once we got there, we started with the very light and very stupid Magical Athlete, then broke up for some mid-weight games - Monkey Palace and Splendor: Pokemon.
We paused for the obligatory birthday cake moment. The group had sourced a lovely keto-friendly, sugar-free cake that had a nice coffee kick to it. And they gave me a rather silly double-boxed birthday gift that took a while to open up, only to reveal a mix of silly Psyduck things and a lot of keto-friendly things like almond milk and cheese.
Then we shuffled the groups to hunker down for somewhat bigger games. Tobie's side ran through the rather gory Abomination: The Heir of Frankenstein, and our side started with Rebirth, then still had time to play a first run-through of The Bohemians and a last round of Magical Athlete. By the time we all finished, we were pretty tapped out and just hung out until the sun started to rise before heading home.
It was a good thing that our family book club meeting got pushed to the afternoon, so I got to sleep in a bit longer. Then we had our first Horror on the Orient Express RPG session after the game went on hiatus months ago. It's never easy to get back into a game after a long time away from the story, but we eventually found our groove, and I'm just glad that the game has come back to life.
It has been a pretty good weekend. Now I just need to make sure that I can rest enough so that I won't be so loopy at work. My nose is no longer as sniffy as it has been over the past few days, but now it's my throat that's giving me some trouble, so let's hope it's nothing too serious developing.
