02FFB: Singapore Anew

Tuesday - Singapore Airlines Seafood Meal

I'm in Singapore! I woke up on time and got to the airport within my target time. Check-in weirdly took almost an hour, but there was literally ZERO queue at immigration and security, which was weird. I had just enough time to grab a coffee at Bo's (since Starbucks is still GONE), then it was pretty much boarding time.

Funny story at the airport: while in queue to drop off my bag, a foreigner (French?) interrupted my social media scrolling to ask if he had to pay travel tax. It took me a moment to figure out how to phrase my response, and I ended up with the rather formal "Are you a foreign passport holder?", which of course he was. I explained he didn't need to worry about it, and this led to a short conversation about how his perception of the country was that we really like our fees. It wasn't until much later, when the snaking of the line had separated us, that I realized he was wearing a Millennium Falcon shirt, while I was in a Star Wars logo shirt. I guess the thematic connection of our shirts probably helped him decide to risk asking me about it.

Another aside: Right before my flight, I saw a TikTok video that had pointed out that it takes you longer to go down the slow escalator to the Immigration floor at Changi versus actually going through Immigration. And as long as you do your online paperwork, it's generally true!

Anyway, my younger nephew showed his appreciation for me finally being back in Singapore by NEVER LEAVING MY SIDE. He immediately had to tell me about WALL-E (their current movie obsession), then gushed over the new Transformers I got him before telling me to transform them. And from there, he was my shadow all over the house. We also watched WALL-E together, but I wasn't allowed to use my phone during the movie because I was supposed to watch. It was a whole thing.

It's going to be an interesting 12 days haha
