So it's confirmed - my primary laptop is dead. I picked it up from the repair shop today, and they gave a brief explanation of what they tried and how the problem persisted after. I'm resigned to using my backup laptop until my next Singapore trip. It's serviceable, but not quite at the level of performance I need for my day-to-day activities. But I'll survive until around March or so, which is when I expect to need to go to Singapore again. The timing of this incident is rather unfortunate, given my big effort to revive the Geeky Guide in order to make it more financially viable or something.
In related news, I got to leverage my new proclivity for automation and AI-crafted scripting to resolve a nagging issue of mine. Two years ago, one of my batch updates for YouTube videos went wrong and applied my O Bar-related boilerplate to ALL videos in my channel. This update also changed the Recording Date for all videos to 14 January 2024. It was a terrible mistake, and there was no simple way to undo it. Thus, I've been manually updating older videos from time to time but leaving most to their own devices. Today, Gemini helped me build a script that pulled all of my YouTube video records into a Google Sheet, and then a second script will push the correct descriptions and recording dates back to YouTube. The main constraint is that I can only update some 200 records per day, but at least I'll eventually get all the older videos back in order, all without needing to pay for a third-party sync or integration service.
With all this going on, it has been a bit of a struggle to balance working on the new site and keeping up with my O Bar video processing queue. It does not help that January had to big birthday shows, and those videos take longer to process because of new numbers and special guests. But I'm determined to keep pace AND get the new Geeky Guide site up before the end of the month. I'm still trying to code the site on my own (with Gemini's help), but we'll see how long I can go without needing to hire someone to clean up my mess. Fingers and toes crossed.
