So February is off to a GRAND start. My laptop "annoyances" came to a head this morning when my computer refused to boot up fully. After pressing the power button, the keyboard would light up, but neither the cooling fans nor the screen would. I went through a few more troubleshooting steps to see if I can assess any possible BIOS complications, but nothing worked. We were left with no choice but to bring it in.
I've had this laptop since November 2022, so it's well outside its warranty. That made it easier to just go for just about any decent laptop repair service, and there was one in SM City BF that seemed legitimate enough. They said it would take 2-3 hours to make an initial assessment, then they'd let me know how things would go. I was hoping that it was just some odd software issue that had bricked the machine, as a hardware fault would be more complicated. We tried to wait at the mall for the initial diagnosis, but there's only so much to do at that particular mall, so we retreated to the Sietch. I had even gone around to look for potential replacement computers, but that particular Cyberzone really isn't up to snuff in that regard.
Expecting the worst, I looked for my last laptop before this Lenovo unit, although I couldn't remember why I had to move on. Thankfully, I had held onto the old ROG Strix during the move to ParaƱaque, but I still had to dig around for the power cable, which had disappeared into the bag of all random wires, chargers, and whatnots. It took a while to restore charge to the device, but once I had it booted it...I realizedthe main issue of this unique was that a number of keys were no longer working. Thankfully, Tobie had a spare external keyboard, and I've spent the rest of the day getting this unit back in working order.
The shop never called me, so I ended up calling them after 3 hours had passed. They confirmed that an IC was in need of replacement and it would take 1-2 weeks for the part to be sourced and installed. I think the lady could hear my stress over the phone, as she tried to assure me that the fastest replacements have arrived in as few as 3 days.
I have the older computer generally working, although I'm clearing a lot of the older apps just to give the unit more breathing room. It's still prompting the need to restart periodically to install even more updates that the machine had missed over the years of dormancy, but that's fine. I should at least be functional by tomorrow and I'll just have to hang on until my Lenovo comes back. Fingers crossed and all that. At least I won't miss another day of work, although I'm not yet sure if this older unit can handle my usual load of work-related web apps.
