Since it was just me and Tobie for our Friday night, we played a few new games to prepare for future game nights. But first, we went through some escape room games, these being the ongoing Exit: The Room Advent calendar game and the Pandemic scenario of Unlock! Game Adventures. This is definitely one of my favorite Unlock! games in recent memory. They really shine when they collaborate with another IP, like with their Star Wars collaboration.
For new games, we got to play two new games. The first one was ORBIT, which is one of a trio of alien-/space-related games designed by Reiner Knizia. This one was positioned as a racing game, which is sort of true, but the "race" involves visiting all the planets before all other players, then racing back to your home planet. It was pretty fun with 2 players, but Tobie and I could project how crazy it'll get with a full four players. That's definitely something to look forward to.
The other game was one of several Avatar: The Last Airbender games we own, this one being Fire Nation Rising. It uses a similar system as Thanos Rising, apparently, but we don't have experience with that particular game. I expected this game to be tricky since it relies primarily on dice rolls and, true enough, Tobie and I didn't win with the starting difficulty. But it was a learning game and we missed a number of rules, so maybe we'll be able get better at this in time. The other ATLA games we own are all campaign games, so at least this one has a lot of replay value.
We're at our monthly board game meet up tonight and we've brought a good number of games for the group to play with. It was a little stressful to get through holiday traffic, but totally worth it since we love this group. But living in the south has significantly added to our travel time for all activities with our friends.
Have a good weekend, everyone.
