So we've a new friend almost in the area - he's from Las Piñas, which is as close as we can manage for board game friends. He had some experience with games and was eager to play more complex ones that his other friends aren't as keen on. So ended up starting the night strong with the likes of Terraforming Mars (Amazon affiliate link), which looks a lot better with the Big Box upgrades and such. I just barely managed a win by a few points against Tobie, althogh I wasn't sure how it was going to go unitl the very end. We were tempted to push things further with Ark Nova (Amazon affiliate link), but the first big game kinda ate up a lot of time.
So we sort of scaled from there with a solid round of Santorini (Amazon affiliate link), which I'm glad that we have a (fancy) copy of. And we wrapped up the night with a rather legnthy round of Disney Villainous (Amazon affiliate link). I finally got to try Oogie Boogie (Amazon affiliate link), and I managed to win at the end. He was a lot of fun to play with and his set came with some beautiful skull dice that made the whole thing quite special.
We are already trying to figure out when we'll next be able to game, so that makes me hopeful for the future. We keep connecting with gamers well outside our area including one in QC (he's such a trooper for traveling all the way to see us), and one in Laguna (who has been super busy). There are the usual vague conversations wtih G app people who say they're interested or at least open to gaming, but they never feel like priority guests for scheduling.
It's already the last quarter of the year and our most reliable gaming friends are those we've been gaming with since we were based in BGC. That's not a bad thing, but of course frequency remains a challenge since they have to travel quite a bit to be with us. We'd really like to cultivate a good set of nearby players than we can invite over for Friday nights and such, but the search has not been all that successful thus far.
