After our lengthy journey home, we still went out to O Bar for Captivating Katkat's birthday show. This was a celebration with many layers. First, it was a classic O Bar birthday show, which means the numbers are tailored to celebrate that birthday queen. It was also a delayed celebration of Katkat's Drag Race Philippines Season 2 win - something she had not been able to do at O Bar itself until now. And finally, it was also a kickoff for her return to O Bar as a home bar, something I wasn't quite expecting.
Most O Divas who have gone through the rigamarole of Drag Race Philippines end up moving on from O Bar and focus on a more independent drag career. The likes of Precious and Brigiding focused on their Divine Divas brand together with Viñas Deluxe and have tied their fates to their own drag club, Rampa. Other queens like Turing, DeeDee, Angel, and Maxie have very independent careers with varied directions, like acting in local soap operas and creating original music. And you have queens like Bernie and Popstar Bench who still perform regularly at O Bar, but not on a full-time basis like the rest of the O Divas. I'm assuming Katkat will have a similar arrangement as Bench and Bernie, but we'll see how things pan out in the coming weeks.
The show itself was all kinda of brilliant, especially with the other DRPH champions Precious and Maxie being present, plus really surprising guests like Ruth Canal and Edsa Xxtra, who hadn't had a chance to perform at O Bar until last night. This opened the doors to a lot of classic O Bar numbers being staged again, particularly with Katkat and Precious taking on very familiar roles. I have quite a number of O Bar videos still in queue and I can't wait to get these videos online because the show was just that entertaining. If you had been going to O Bar since the pre-pandemic days, then you'd totally get why I loved the show so much. It's a shame that we didn't have a very big group of friends with us, but it was still a good night.
I hope this leads to more interesting things at O Bar and maybe more DRPH O Diva returning to the bar on a more regular basis as well.
