02ED5: Hello, Pangasinan!

Tuesday - Tondaligan Beach

It took us over 4 hours to get to Pangasinan, but here we are. We're staying at a hotel in Lingayen while Tobie's event tomorrow is actually in Dagupan, so there's a fair amount of shuttling back and forth. I realize that apart from this being my first time in this province, this is probably the furthest north that I've ever traveled as well.

This is the first time I've joined Tobie for one of these creative roadshow events that he's been participating in within the last few years. I was hoping to be able to work during the second half of the day, but the journey itself took a little longer than planned, so I ended up filing leave for the rest of the day as well. At the very least, I managed to get to the end of four different books during the drive over - two of which I only started reading today! PROGRESS.

It's a very government affair, given the way transportation and meals are being handled. Today's itinerary even included a quick meet with the Vice Mayor at a beachside location literally known as the Mayor's Pavilion. My dinner conversation included talking to DOST and DITC people about generative AI and other digital topics of interest, so I guess I'm in good company even as "just" a companion. Naturally, everyone is suggesting that I become a speaker during the next trip...we'll see how this goes. And I think we're meeting the Mayor tomorrow. Wowzers.

The event proper will be tomorrow, and it looks like we're going to have to wake up VERY early for the second day in a row! What is this craziness? We're clearly too used to our work-from-home life. But it's a school event, so naturally, things are going to start bright and early, and us being at least 30 minutes away adds logistical load to things. I'll be joining Tobie onsite, regardless, but will try to get work done while he gets through his workshop and stuff. I just hope my mobile data keeps me productive. The internet at the hotel is pretty decent, at least, but the table situation is rather awkward.
