02EB7: Super Sunday

Sunday - J.Co Merienda

After last night's gaming and me settling my daily blog update,  Tobie and I played a few rounds of Tapestry via BGA before calling it a night. This is one of those cases where playing the digital version of the game helps in a pinch since you save time on game setup and scoring, but kinda miss out on some of the expansion content now available on BGA. At least with games like Ark Nova and Earth, the expansion content is available on the platform, so we're able to play games that feel a lot more substantial.

Anyway, sticking to digital gaming helped us head to bed earlier and get a better amount of sleep. I still had to get up for our family book club call, but I made sure to let Tobie sleep in.

Since we didn't have any other plans, we decided to take the gamble and head to SM BF to try and catch the new Superman movie. I didn't even pre-book tickets online - we figured it was early enough to just queue for tickets in person and then see what we ended up with. It turned out that the Director's Club cinemas were already quite full, but we managed to get some decent seats in the regular theater screening. There were still a LOT of people given Sundays are family days, but it was worth the effort.

That was a great Superman movie. It's such a relief that they tried to more closely follow the "classic" comic book tone of the character versus the darker Snyder movies. That approach clearly didn't work for the old DC EU, as it skewed too far away from the comics. It was certainly a distinct vision for the whole brand, but more often than not, they did weird things with the characters. Of course, it's too early to tell if Gunn's new DC movie universe is going to be significantly better, but at least this first cinematic effort is pretty solid. Good overall story and some smart efforts to draw from key comic book titles as inspiration. There were also a lot of fun depictions of various characters - that all helped to really ground the story.

Fingers crossed for the upcoming Supergirl movie! If it's really going to draw heavily from Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, then it has a lot of potential indeed.
