It's Tobie's birthday today - do greet him a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Last night, we went to O Bar with a few friends for a birthday salubong celebration. And while I didn't get him a gift this year, I did prepare a song to sing with the O2Men during the preshow. And since their set runs from 11:30 pm to 12:30 am, I was able to sing the song right after midnight.
I usually sing alternative rock songs from my high school years during these jam sessions, but last night I had a very different song in mind. I wanted to sing Gloria Estefan's Heaven's What I Feel, which is a song with significant meaning for us, given how we started. We used to hear it at O Bar Malate whenever we'd hang out, and it became a sort of reminder of how we felt despite the less-than-ideal circumstances. So that's the song I wanted to sing, and I got help from the O2Men to adjust the pitch so that it could be more in my vocal range. The first attempt borked because they lost internet signal, so we had to start all over again once they figured out how to position their hotspot. But it still made the whole thing a fun experience.
I wasn't expecting Tobie to have prepared a song of his own from the same period. We can't help but come up with similar ideas when it comes to baduy things like this.
The show was very Thursday, for those who understand what that means in an O Bar context. But that was just fine because every O Bar night has its charm. And we do like Thursdays. And beyond the good company of friends, the O Boys managed to surprise Tobie with a birthday cake, even though he had told them they could relax today and focus on Friday night for anything celebratory.
And now we're steeling ourselves for another O Bar night as the "official" birthday celebration, even though the bulk of the night will take place on the 26th since we'll be there pretty much until morning.
