02E52: Urgent Cookware Acquisition

Thursday - Tahanan Sinigang

Because of yesterday's initial induction cooking experiment, I've been quite eager to get better cookware in order to lean into cooking for real. To be fair, a lot of my cooking only requires a single burner, so the new induction plate is just what I need to shift more cooking into the Sietch versus the kitchen in the main house.

So after work, Tobie and I made a quick run to SM BF to solve this lingering issue, pick up some groceries, and settle other resupply needs, especially since Tobie has a booth at Komiket this weekend and he needed stuff for that. We first considered getting cookware at the supermarket itself because SM Supermarkets are rather one-and-done, but my first review of the inventory didn't really present more recognizable brands, so it felt like it might be worth it to go to the department store first. But they pretty much carried the same brands, so there was no real difference. We ended up with a Chef's Gallery pot and a pan, which should cover the full range of what we expect to cook at the Sietch. It at least looked a little fancier than the other brands, plus it claimed to have some sort of hexagon technology for whatever reason. I can buy into a gimmick.

We're going to be out most of the weekend because of the different activities lined up, but I wanted to make sure that we had options for things to prepare. I have enough ingredients for either a hot pot-style soup, which may or may not involve kimchi, or the squid and sayote mix I cook a lot. Huzzah!

Expect to see more of our own pork sinigang and chicken tinola in my blog updates to come. All the love for one pot meals.
