After work, I was eager to try out our new induction cooker to prepare a quick dinner as Tobie was scheduled to run an RPG session with the players. But I only had the free stainless steel pot that had come with cooker, so I wasn't sure how that was going to go.
I wasn't prepared for how quickly the pot would heat up given the way induction cooking works - what more with a very thin pot. This resulted in a lot more smoke than I would have liked, and some of my oil caught fire for a bit. So yeah, cooking was unexpectedly exciting. I killed the heat, waited for things to settle down, then adjusted the settings to work with a lower heat this time versus the default "fry" heat setting that I had chosen.
The final dish was a familiar one, although with some unintended smokiness (honestly, more of a burnt taste), but it was still largely edible. We'll still cook bigger meals in the main house, but at least this opens the door to some cooking taking place here. I figure that I could theoretically shift my one-pot dishes down here at least. That'll better address the need to get a handle on more of our meals instead of ordering takeout. I might even be able to cook full soups here, which would be quite nice.
However, I recognize that we need to get dedicated induction-friendly cookware. This thing pot isn't going to do it and we still need a compatible frying pan for other heating efforts. I tried the magnet test on our existing pots and pans, and none of them appear to be induction-friendly, so we're starting from scratch in this department.
But this is exciting! It's nice to have cooking capabilities in the new Sietch.
