02E4F: Holiday Geekery

Monday - Tahanan Lunch

Welcome to the end of March and the end of Ramadan. Since Tobie filed leave to join my holiday today, we made the most of things by going out to O Bar last night. For non-event nights like this, we're generally used to ending up going alone since it's really hard to gather people for O Bar nights these days. We typically run into other familiar faces at the bar itself, but last night, the more familiar people were primarily the owners and just 2-3 other friends. It's a good thing we count the performers as friends because otherwise this kind of an O Bar night would potentially feel very lonely.

Because of our late night, our main holiday activity ended up being the joy of sleeping in. We woke up past noon and only really got around to eating an hour or so later. In order to get stuff done, we figured another trip to SM BF was in order (our third since the weekend) to take one last stab at figuring out how to salvage the filter I had purchased for the shower via Lazada and to get some sort of a cooking device.

For the shower situation, we ended up with a two-prong solution. The bare minimum plan was to get that weird plumbing tape used to create more of a seal around the connection point between the pipes. The other solution was a more Frankenstein approach where I got another short shower hose and a male-to-male adapter (since the hoses are female-to-female) and created a weird daisy chain of the short hose, the adapter, the filter, then the existing shower hose to feed into the shower heater. It took a few tries and several disassemblies as we tried to get the amount of tape right (as it was leaking out of the top of the filter), but in the end, we got it working! It's not the prettiest solution, but it's serviceable.

For our little kitchen in the Sietch, we have very limited counter space, and so we wanted to get one cooking device that would be flexible and useful in different ways. We're still going to cook big meals in the main house, but we still want the option to heat things up or cook quick things from time to time. After much discussion, we ended up getting a single burner induction cooker since that seems to be the safest open. I would have been open to one of those microwaves that also function as a conventional oven, but the induction route was the much cheaper option. It came with a stainless steel pot, so that'll be our minimum cooking container. We need to double-check if any of our existing pots and pans are also induction compatible before getting new ones.

Beyond that, I got two loads of laundry done, we finished the first story arc of Solo Leveling and the latest season of Reacher. We caught up with the latest episode of 9-1-1 and we're halfway through Daredevil: Born Again and we almost started Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, but our streaming option started to bork, so we aborted for now. And for tonight, we're back to playing Pendragon with our other group, so at least we have some gaming as part of this holiday.
