02E48: Water Problems

Monday - Squid & Sayote

We're dealing with water service interruptions again this week and it's adding a low-key type of stress on top of everything else. These last few water interruptions haven't even had proper announcements on Maynilad's social media pages, which has made planning for things even more difficult. There are vague SMS messages being re-shared in the village group that people have been using as a basis for figuring our lives, and they're mostly right even if the exact timing tends to be off a bit.

We didn't have water on Saturday afternoon but it came back briefly in the morning. But it was gone again by the time we woke up and it was projected that it wouldn't come back until the wee hours of the morning. Tobie and I stepped out later in the night and as soon as I got home I checked the meter. The water had returned, so I made sure to refill there water tank ASAP in case we'd end up with another unscheduled water service interruption.

And I prepared a load of laundry and set it to finish around the time I expected to be out of my morning meetings.

Today there was another of those supposed official SMS updates that was shared in the village group, so we refilled the tank right before the schedule mentioned in the SMS update and...it was accurate. We have no water tonight and it is expected to come back at 6AM. That's a reasonable enough timing since it's most of us should be asleep during the bulk of the service interruption. But we have had cases when the water doesn't come back precisely on time.

We hope for the best.  It's all part of living in the South - or least within the jurisdiction of Maynilad as a utility operator. Maybe it'll get better one day, but their current track record is not reassuring so it won't be change that'll happen any time soon.
