02DAC: Kindle Surprise

Saturday - Kindle Oasis

I was too tired to finish The Boy and the Heron last night, so we called it a night before 02:00am, which is a bit early compared to our usual weekend practice. But I was pretty beat from the travel day, so I suppose it couldn't be helped.

Despite the "waste" of a Friday night, I was pretty happy to find out that my Kindle Oasis had arrived this morning, which makes it a full week earlier than the original delivery expectation. I arrived earlier than the cases I had ordered for it via Lazada, which theoretically have a closer point of origin. The cases have been stuck in customs clearance since the 22nd - something that has probably been delayed by the bad weather this week. In contrast though, the Kindle arrived in the Philipines just last Thursday and cleared things pretty quickly. Yay Amazon logistical superiority or something.

The Kindle was supposed to be set up with my account already as per the Amazon website, but that wasn't the case. But no major complaints about that given it probably meant a faster delivery cycle as no one bothered to set up the device. I got it charged and configured quickly enough and immediately went on to finish reading two of my in-progress books - Mentants of Dune and Welcome to the Hyunam-dog Bookshop. I'm still getting used to it's wider shape versus the Paperwhite line and just how light it is. The physical buttons are truly a delight, although I don't know yet if I'll stick to the reversed button arrangement or move my hand up higher and go to the default setting. I will know better once the cases arrive and I know what the whole ensemble actually feels like in my hand. But it feels pretty good so far - just some getting used to.

We've hade some time for some board games since I've gotten back alongside catching up with other shows like 9-1-1. Yesterday we played the Mysterium scenario of Unlock! Game Adventures and today we jumped around Board Game Arena and played Harmonies, Tapestry, and Star Fluxx. BGA helps speed things along and minimizes the need for cleanup. We do have other plans for the night to consider.

I hope you're all having a good weekend as well. At least the weather seems kinder for now.
