So I never got to share updates on my frozen Kindle - it seems to be dead. The battery did eventually drain since technically the screen light was on the whole time but the display did not change from the loading screen. I tried forcing a reset and it finally changed to the reminder that the device needed to be charged, which gave me a glimmer of hope. But after charging it, my attempt to reset the device didn't work and IO was back to the title screen.
Since then, I've been getting by with the Kindle app on my phone and my older Paperwhite, which I had passed along to Tobie. He hasn't really been using it a lot since he tends to default to his iPad, so at least I still get to read. But this whole time I've been weighing which device to get as a replacement. Amazon only ships the basic Kindle and an "international version" of the Kindle Oasis to the Philippines, so those are my official possibilities. But a lot of tech sellers on Amazon offer the other models including the different Paperwhites that I can't seem to get shipped via Amazon itself.
I was pretty eager to get something for myself sooner rather than later, but there had been a lot of tech buzz about new Kindles getting announced this week...and it has already happened. Now I'm not exactly chasing the newest models or anything, but I figured new Kindles might help lower the prices of existing units and maybe open up new delivery options for the Philippines. The international version of the basic Kindle (2022 release) still ships to the Philippines but toggling to the latest version that has just been released shows that isn't an option. None of the Paperwhite variants (old or new) are eligible for shipping to the Philippines, so that sucks. However, the international version of the Kindle Oasis (2019 release) is still an option and is 50% off - but I think Amazon won't be releasing new versions of this device for one reason or another. That makes it cheaper than getting a Paperwhite via any of the Lazada resellers.
Decisions, decisions...
For now, I'm holding off until the 20th since I'm waiting for my credit card cycle to shift before I make any big purchases. Whether that means I pick up something here in Singapore or try my luck with getting the Oasis is anyone's guess at this point. I'm going to give all this some serious thought. Plus I know my sister still has her Oasis, so it might make sense to test out her device and get a feel for things.
