02B39: Catching Up

Tuesday Chicken and Cabbage

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 801

It's been a month since I got to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once while I was in Singapore with my family. And over the course of that month...I haven't talked about the movie. I've been waiting for Tobie to finally get a chance to watch it - which has been challenging since the movie hasn't gotten a local theatrical release. It has been a month where I've been able unable to talk about this amazing cinematic experience with my favorite person to watch movies with.

And I can be pretty good at keeping secrets.

We're finally watching the movie together tonight and I'm pretty stoked. I can tell that Tobie is loving it because I know what he likes and all that. But it's entirely different to be with him as he goes through it while celebrating the movie as well. Because it's a damn good movie that defies all expectations and I love it so much.

A big part of why I love the movie - and expected Tobie to love the movie as well - is how much it reminds me of some of our trippier tabletop RPG experiences. The movie calls to mind game systems like Lacuna Part 1: The Creation of the Mystery of the Girl From the Blue City or both the graphic novel and board game experience of MIND MGMT. Tobie has a flair for including these sorts of things in his games and I can only wonder what new ideas this movie is going to inspire.

Now we need to figure out how to watch the What Did You Eat Yesterday? movie together as I had gotten to see that one during my flight home.
