Leni Robredo Running for President

Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 572

In June 2020, the way things were going got me worried enough to bring this blog private out of fear of government reprisal for even the slightest criticism from an average citizen like myself. Such fears are still there along with all the powers of our anti-terrorism laws and whatnot, but today is also a special day.

I'm disabling the "cloak" on this blog in order to better stand in public support of Vice President Leni Robredo's decision to run for president in the 2022 elections. With only a day left to file her certificate of candidacy, I'm sure a lot of us were pretty nervous that she wasn't going to run and we'd be left trying to figure out which of the less-appealing candidates we'd be forced to vote for if only to thwart the efforts to continue the policies of the incumbent administration.

But today's news along with the outpouring of support across our side of social media was quite the message of hope for many of us. And I certainly feel powered by that strength and I want to be able to stand in the light again and add my voice to all the others.

We have a very long road ahead of us and things are going to get worse before they can get better. The public machinery that supports the various candidates are going to go into full swing in order to sway public opinion in their favor and far too many have benefited from the status quo and will be more than willing to invest into making sure things continue on the same path. That'll mean a lot of paid efforts to nudge social media conversations and opinions this way or that and a lot of mud that'll be inevitably slung at both the Vice President and all those who declare themselves as supporters.

But it's a good day to stand among those who see her as the best hope for this country. It's a good day to believe that we can turn things around. It's a great day to have a reason to think that all is not lost and maybe, just maybe, we'll be able to effect some serious changes just by casting a vote for candidates like her.

I proudly support Leni Robredo as the next President of the Philippines and I intend to do my best to add my voice to help amplify her message and help others see why she's the best choice for our future leader. In a time when a Marcos has firmly announced his intentions to vie for the same position and in one act practically invalidate the entire struggle against his dictator father, we cannot let our guard down for a moment. Leni is going to need all the help that we can get and we need to exert whatever influence he have with our respective social circles if we have any hope of getting her elected.
