0156E: Political Dynasties Are Bad For The Philippines

From Inquirer.net There's been a lot of debate as of late when it comes to the subject of political dynasties in Philippine politics. The usual argument against legislation preventing the proliferation of such dynasties is the need to allow the skills and merit of the individual win out over any desire to stop such dynasties from thriving. I mean come on, there is a Wikipedia article dedicated solely to discussing Philippine political dynastie s. WHY DOES THIS EVEN EXIST? The article does indicate that at least 60% of the Philippine Congress involves representatives with relatives (whether by blood or through marriage) in some sort of an elected position. And this has not changed since before the Marcos era either. My boss had an interesting way of describing the effect of political dynasties in the country - when families ties their personal economy to public office, then nothing good can come of it. Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 388 I don't exactly go crazy for Lazada sale days, especially since my typical purchases as of late are keto food items and ingredients. But I do try to take advantage of whatever limited promotions happen to intersect with my needs. During the recent Lazada Birthday Sale, I ordered a bunch of keto items with minimal discounts (as usual) and used my one P100 voucher for a replacement pair of Bluetooth headphones since my current ones have stopped pairing for some reason. To be fair, I've used those headphones pretty much daily since I bought as they are my workout headphones, so I understand why they might have reached end of life sooner than later. Metro Manila Community Quarantine - Day 1150 Because I knew Monday was going to be quite a Monday, I booked us tickets to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after work. We just got back from watching it and we both enjoyed the movie a lot. It's a great bookend to Gunn's work at Marvel and for the Guardians themselves. I don't want to get into spoilers, but I'll just stress that I really liked it even if it may not be immediately accessible to everyone unless they've invested in the journey of this team over the years. During the drive home, I got to thinking about the 2008 Abnett and Lanning run of Guardians of the Galaxy that obviously played a key role in inspiring this franchise. And while there are a LOT of differences between the comic book and movie depictions, both are worth loving for every different reasons.
