03085: Inspiration

Monday - Ground Pork Pasta

I could definitely feel the post-Komiket "hangover" this morning, but work is work, and that's that. But it was still a good day, as I cleared a lot of my to-do items and addressed some new things that came up. Let's hope this is a start to another good week.

That said, I have even more local komiks to read, which always muddies my reading queue. The challenge with a lot of local books is that they're often self-published and not the sort of thing you can write a review for on Goodreads. So it's what I jokingly refer to as non-productive reading. I still invest time in reading all these zines and mini-comics, but I don't get to track them as books that I've read. It's frustrating, but it's still for a good cause.

I maintain an Instagram Highlight for quick Stories reviews that I write for local komiks that acts as a proxy for a full Goodreads review - at least until they reach a point when they get the title published as a full book. And it's not an impossibility - publishers like Komiket do a lot of work with local creators to get them through the creative process all the way to having a full book on the shelf. One step at a time.

It's quite inspiring to talk to these different creators. I've developed a small circle of booths that I try to visit at every event, and I invest whenever they have something new of interest. This weekend I even met some college students who had won a competition to create comics, and their works were on sale at the event. We're still talking a bit on Instagram, because that's how one interacts with this generation.

Cue Tobie reminding me to create something of my own.
