Dolly Parton died after a brief bout with cancer. She was 80 years old.
We weren't able to buy lettuce this week, whether at the Kadiwa market last Sunday or at the supermarket today.
And there's a bit of a people shakeup that's been nagging at me for most of the week.
The cast of Drag Race Philippines Season 4 has finally been officially announced.
I can't remember when I gained a better appreciation of the word Bittersweet. It was always attached to things like dark chocolate and such, sure, but that's not what struck me. It's more when it's used to describe those mixed feelings we experience - the blending of happiness and sadness over something. I try not to abuse the term, but it really feels like the perfect adjective for many situations.
That's what this birthday week has been feeling like for me - bittersweet. We received weird news on Sunday that I found out to actually be worse as of yesterday. And I've already been a little maudlin over how my birthday feels very "unbirthday" this year. I'm trying to look on the brighter side of things, but my feelings keep wandering back to mixed feelings of sadness, frustration, and outright anger. And it's not because of just one bit of news, but more like a cascade in my head after so many different less-than-ideal updates.
I don't need a big celebration. I don't need elaborate gifts. All I was hoping for was a happy little birthday night out with close friends, and I know I'm barely getting that. But it seems it's not even going to feel like the bare minimum because of REASONS, and it all feels quite disheartening - or at least very disappointing.
But I also know that it's not all about me, and many things that are proving to be upsetting are things outside my direct control. I still feel affected by these events, and an irrational part of me feels personally offended to a seemingly significant degree. Logically, I know I shouldn't feel this way since it doesn't help anyone and it's like inviting negativity into your head. But it's all jumbled up in my head for now, so I'll try to ride it out and try to shake it off before Friday so I can focus on celebrating somehow.
