I've been a little sniffly this week, which I suppose was inevitable given the weeks of near-daily rain. I'm not feverish, just annoyed that my nose randomly turns into a faucet every now and then. Meds are helping keep things under control, but it also means I'm a little slower on the uptake than I'd like to be.
It's my birthday in a week, and it's one of those unbirthday years, I think. There's just so much going on that I haven't really thought about it, and now it's just around the corner. Even scanning the different birthday offers I've gotten over email, I only have a few templated greetings and some existing vouchers for things I'll never buy, now dressed up as "birthday offers". In previous years, I'd find at least one offer worth exploring. This is not one of those years.
I'm taking the day off from work for my birthday and the local holiday the Monday after, so that's a pretty long weekend to do stuff. And...I got nothing. I don't feel like corralling friends together for any sort of big celebration. Tobie and I will be at O Bar on Thursday night, so we'll be there once it's officially my birthday after midnight. Thursday nights are pretty light nights at the bar, so it's unlikely we'll even run into familiar faces at nearby tables. And maybe that's exactly the kind of birthday celebration I need this year. Or I'm just being needlessly maudlin, as is common enough as you get older.
Adulting means you have to figure out your own birthday celebrations no matter how big or small you hope them to be.
At least we have a game night to look forward to tomorrow, so that should be fun. And there's still time to figure out what else we'll do during my birthday weekend outside of Tobie's signing event at Fully Booked BGC.
