03020: Tobie's Big Weekend

Thursday - Tahanan Tinola

Upon the recommendation of a friend, our current K-Drama is The Penthouse, which is another of those chaebol conflict stories. They're not our favorite genre of dramas, but we dabble from time to time. Things have started at a very over-the-top level of inter-class conflict, and it was a struggle getting through the first 3 episodes. Beyond the ridiculous elitist villainy, the main challenge is how the oppressed characters don't feel that "good" either since they're depicting to some despicable things just to keep pace with the evil rich people. Hopefully, there'll be more nuanced character development in future episodes. It's a 3-season show, though, and I'm not sure if we can endure watching them back-to-back.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of this year's Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF), which is the event where Tobie's comic is set to debut. I'll be joining Tobie at his booth all weekend to help out as best as I can. This is the culmination of the last 2 years of work - and it's only the first of three planned volumes. Still, it's quite the exciting achievement, and I'm looking forward to all the people who will get copies this weekend. We're hoping to see a good number of friends at the event, but it'll be just as exciting to meet new fans of his work.

I'm technically on leave tomorrow, but I promised to bring my laptop with me since we have an important submission tomorrow. I've finished my slides, but there may be revisions, so it's better to be prepared for edits. It's not too much of an issue since the event is hosted at a mall, so I'll have emergency working space options if push comes to shove.

See you all at PICOF!
