Working during the day means that I'm not free to watch/listen to the ongoing impeachment trial, which is probably for the best. When I do take time to watch highlights from the proceedings...it just stresses me out. There's no getting away from how impeachment trials are both political and judicial proceedings, so this isn't a typical trial. At least my frustrations with some of the senator-judges are somewhat offset by Chiz Escudero as the presiding officer, as he seems to be doing a decent job for the most part.
The defense is being the defense, as is the way of such things. Their strategy isn't very creative - they're raising as many objections as possible and are aggressively trying to discredit the prosecution's first witness. I'm sure they're going to grill each and every prosecution witness in the same manner, and it's not pretty to watch. It doesn't help that the lawyer handling this first article impeachment is coming across as particularly slimy on TV - par for the course for that particular law firm, when you think about it.
So we have like 89 more trial days of this back and forth? So much fun.
