Well, we survived our brief foray north for this year's All aBOARD Expo. We didn't spend the whole day at the event, but we at least achieved our rather specific objectives. Tobie had committed to run a demo session of the Pendragon RPG. I went to at least buy some of the event-exclusive games while there. So Tobie did run his game and had a pretty fun session with some rather enthusiastic newbies. I got way more games than expected, but such is my board game hoarding life.
Funnily enough, my first purchase at the expo wasn't even any of the "official" featured games. Since Tobie's RPG session was at the second floor near some independent vendors, I chanced upon a booth featuring board games from India. I'm a sucker for regional games with a distinct local flavor, so I ended up buying two of their titles after a succinct yet complete enough explanation of each game. Then I dove into the crowd to get the event exclusives along with some surprising Dice Tower promo cards that were just in unassuming binders on one of the tables. I rounded things out with some Oink games that another independent seller had on sale, so all in all it was a great (yet expensive) haul.
We honestly tried going around the main expo area, which consistedly solely of demo tables for the various games being exhibited. I had only managed one demo game myself shortly after we had arrived since I had encountered another gaming friend there. I really wanted to try Let's Go! To France or Grow Sky, but there were too many people to snag a slot - or at least I didn't have the patience to wait. Tobie was pretty tired after this game session, so we didn't stick around too long and figured it was smarter to get home and rest before heading out again for O Bar.
I have to wake Tobie up from his nap in a bit. At least a friend and I got to test out an online platform for playing MTG commander and we got through a full game! This opens up new options for mid-week MTG sessions or something. Happy things.
