It's Labor Day tomorrow, which is one of the nice holidays that both Tobie and I get to enjoy together. We don't have any major plans apart from going to O Bar night, but I suppose that's more because we're reserving the bulk of the weekend for the first Asian Board Games Festival hosted in Manila. That's going to eat up most of our free time this weekend, but it'll be time well spent for sure.
In more idle entertainment, I've blitzed through Beth Bolden's Riptide queer books this week. They're football-themed romances with very low conflict and a lot of internal character growth, which is par for the course for cozier books of this nature. And this is just one set of books in a larger universe, apparently. I guess if you're writing formula results in well-received titles, then she's doing something very right. She's hardly my favorite author in this space, but it's easy reading. But I'm going to take a break from football before I consider her Miami team or her tangential series of food truck-related titles.
On a similar note, we're on the last movie in the Murder She Baked/Hannah Swensen mysteries. They're all cosy mysteries, which also means being rather low stakes and quite predictable. It's kind of bonkers that we've gone through 12 movies already, with another 2 titles set for release this year.
As I put all this together in this post, I realize we're going through different forms of cozy entertainment. Go figure. When work gets too heavy, it's easier to go through lighter entertainment outside of working hours.
Have a good long weekend, everyone.
