So for the big birthday gaming celebration, our roster of games leaned more towards new titles that we had recently acquired. It's never easy to break new games in with your gaming groups, but it's a practice we're pretty used to at this point. I think the only real challenge is that everyone had a pretty heavy workweek one way or another, so energy levels were a little low. So we started with a rather light yet clever game called Pictures, which feels something like Dixit, but your only way to describe the image is to use another round of Dixit inside the existing game.
For heavier games, Tobie's side of the table played Black Forest by Uwe Rosenberg. It's an interesting innovation of his prior game, Glass Road, centered around his rather brilliant (and often frustrating) production wheels. I played a first-time session of Legendary: Game of Thrones, which turns out to be a very clever head-to-head version of the deckbuilding game. We played another round of this at the end of the game night, just to give other players a chance to experience it too.
The rest of the night was rounded out with smaller, shorter games, including Shall We Dance, Phone Wallet Keys, and SPY x FAMILY: Mission for Peanuts. We had played the first two games last night as well, so that was an easy experience to bring in. The last one was a first-timer play for a game that Tobie had picked up second-hand, and it turned out to be something closer to Love Letter with deep theming related to the manga/anime series.
Today has been very light in contrast. We slept in after that full night of gaming, with our only real agenda item being a foot spa appointment I had set in the afternoon. That took a little longer than expected, but it was certainly a nice, relaxing way to spend the afternoon. We followed that up with a hearty first meal of the day (which already counts as dinner) at Shima Japanese Restaurant in BF. It was a bit of an indulgence, but birthday weekends are the best times for things like this.
