02FCD: Content Slowdown

Friday - Big Bento

I've slowed down in writing more content for the Geeky Guide, and I'm feeling a little guilty about it. Cities: Skylines isn't helping, but overall, things have just been quite busy, and it's hard to juggle things. I've at least gotten the total board game reviews over 300, but I haven't "celebrated" this on my socials just yet. I feel like I want to add more reviews to make things more substantial somehow. I end up cramming every Friday night to work on the weekly long-form article, which includes adding whichever reviews I need to round out the article. But I recognize that I need to churn out a lot more content to really get the site running - or at least squatting on more board game search queries.

Just tonight, I thought it might be a good idea to configure a Gemini Gem to help do some of my research when I'm brainstorming articles. I wanted it to reference a Google Sheet I'd set up with the articles I've already written and all the board game reviews that I've written, then check trending topics and make recommendations. The concept seemed straightforward enough, but the actual prompt development took a lot more time than expected because it kept hallucinating responses. The final version now requires that I upload my reference sheet as CSVs every time I start the chat (since LLMs don't do well as database retrieval agents) and then still take any output with a grain of salt. The recommendations now aren't too different from what I've generated in previous weeks, but at least they'll try to avoid suggesting that I write articles that I've already written, and maybe suggest other games to cite instead of the ones I've already linked to in recent articles. Not quite what I had hoped for, but the technology can only go so far.

I'm still committed to this as a potential passive income stream. It's not earning anything yet, and my total pageviews are nowhere near where I need them to be before I can even consider applying to higher-value ad networks. But man, it's a long road ahead, and I only have so much time to allocate to this. I got started on this journey with the mindset that I needed to keep it as a lower-effort, longer-term potential review stream. But I do wish I were further along already.
