02FC4: LEGO Incursion

Wednesday - LEGO Rocky

For the longest time, I had contented myself with only occasional LEGO purchases, including the one-off Doctor Who setthe older DeLorean 3-in-1 set, and, of course, the Everyone is Awesome Pride set. I had a foray into LEGO Dimensions mainly for the crossover minifigures, but beyond that, I told myself I would focus on Transformers and board games.

In recent years, LEGO Ideas and Icons lines have been finding new ways to tempt me. I resisted most of the Transformers sets, but still got myself a Soundwave (of course!). I also have the Keith Haring Dancing Figures still in the box, but I suspect I'll finally assemble them soon. Then the Star Trek Enterprise-D came along, and I had to get help from a friend to secure that set with the elusive GWP shuttle. Then the Project Hail Mary set came out, and I REALLY wanted that one, given my love for the book and eventually for the movie as well. And now I'm scrambling to find a copy of the Tintin Moon Rocket, because it was almost immediately tagged as out of stock with the local distributor.

Why am I back in practically active LEGO collecting again? I had already passed on the bulk of my older sets to Anak, and yet here I am again.

Just today, my WALL-E and EVE set arrived because...I have no real major reason for getting this pair, I just love WALL-E. Or maybe I really love M-O, and that inclusion helped to push me into a purchasing decision. I nearly got the Technic Artemis Space Launch System, but thankfully, the combination of 4.4 sales and the actual Artemis mission has rendered the set out of stock with the local retailer as well. I'm still oddly tempted by the Gameboy (even though I never owned one), but I think I can safely say that I've banished all thoughts of getting the Pac-Man Arcade set from my mind.

However, today we also got the Creator Cute Bunny set that Tobie ordered, but it's not because we really like rabbits. This older kiddie set has gained new life because of builders who have figured out how to create a larger LEGO Rocky figure based on his appearance in the Project Hail Mary movie, and Tobie decided to help enable this build - I just had to buy the instructions online. And he's quite adorable, despite having some fragile and fiddly bits. And now I have a LOT of excess bunny bricks in a bag for...whatever. Maybe I'll try to make him some supporting equipment or background material.

So yeah, we have more LEGO at the Sietch now, and I'm still trying to figure out where to put the sets once assembled. This is why I've only assembled the Shuttlepod while the main Enterprise is still in its box. I have a rough idea where WALL-E and EVE are going to stay, but Rocky is going to stay right beside my laptop for the immediate future.

Amaze. Amaze. Amaze.
