02F84: Keeping the Plates Spinning

Tuesday - Tahanan Tinola

I last spoke to Unionbank customer service on 22 January because I was having trouble activating my new credit card in Google Wallet. They told me it should take 24 hours to process, then things got busy and I never got back to them. Fast forward to today and I decided to call customer service after work to find out what happened. Initially, the rep was certain either and offered to file a new ticket to "expedite" the request, which is sort of the same thing that happened when I  was resolving my credit card delivery issues. I don't know what she did though, but after she put me on hold, she came back and asked me to check if it was active already - which it was! And while this card won't become my primary credit card anytime soon, I am happy to have access to Google Wallet as an alternate pay option, especially during care cases when I don't have my physical cards with me or something. Plus it's feels kinda cool to be able to pay with your phone, or something. I'm a silly geek that way.

My first day back on my older laptop was decent enough. I managed to get my more critical work tasks cleared away, although things weren't without issue. This machine is definitely showing its age, and it can't handle quite as many web apps open at the same time. So I'm trying to be more responsible with my tab and app management to avoid big complications. I've more than enough surprise app shutdowns or things slowing to a crawl as the machine catches up. That doesn't even consider my physical setup. Apart from needing an external keyboard, this is also the computer without a built-in camera, so I had to dig up our old Logitech external camera. That means a lot of USB-based peripherals, so I also had to bring out my USB extension hub to help accommodate thee extra stuff.

I'm reminding myself that this is a temporary situation. Once my main computer comes back from the shop, I can go back to my usual workflow and this machine can return to longer-term storage.

I'm having a bit of a slowdown in my big content plan for the Geeky Guide - this being Webflow. I'm really not a design-first person, but I'm feeling the pressure to find a template that is aesthetic yet checks all the boxes of my technical requirements, of which there are many. It's no cakewalk trying to evaluate templates when you're also trying to learn a new platform at the same time. And a lot of the features I'm trying to test are behind a paywall, which is putting pressure on me to start paying for these services. I will do so eventually (and start tracking finances properly for this whole effort), but I'm also trying to be smart and delay things for as long as possible.

All this blog tinkering time is interfering with my other activities like processing O Bar videos, and at times it's hard to figure out what to work on for the day. But are important but for very different reasons. And this Geeky Guide stuff is supposed to be a longer-term effort. However, I also know that I have deadline in the form of the Airtable free trial period. I figure that once I start paying for that, I might as well be paying for everything else, which means I need to be live by the time the trial ends.

PRESSURE!
