In contrast with our light gaming on Friday night, we brought out some good heavy-hitters last night to really round out this gaming weekend. But as predicted, it was a two-part game night where we played games with one friend first, then our other friend arrived just as the first one had to leave. So no big game for 4 players, but at least there was some collective good fun across the span of the night.
We started with another round of ATLA: Crossroads of Destiny, and we played through two different scenarios this time. It wasn't the full journey effort, but at least it was an opportunity to explore more of the game. Then we went really big with another round of SETI with the Space Agencies expansion. Tobie won this one despite our best efforts, but we still enjoyed the experience as a whole. Our final game of this first part of the game night was a good run of Dune Imperium along with its two expansions Rise of Ix and Immortality. This was quite brutal and the points just weren't quite flowing as easily as hoped. I managed a vary narrow victory at the very end, so that was still something.
For the second half of the game night, we started light with a silly session of Incan Gold with the events mini-expansion. I liked the variety the event cards added to things, even if we were largely quite foolhardy adventurers. But then we took things up to another level by going back to Rebirth in order to finally try the Ireland side of the board. It certainly presented a new kind of challenge versus the base Scotland board, but there's still value in playing that side as well.
Finally, we took the time to learn how to play Only Murders in the Building The Game, as based on the TV show. I had received this game as a gift, but had only found the time to play the game last night. It's an atypical deduction game with a clever card mechanic that results in some silly character movement that can feel quite consistent with the show. I really have to hand it to Prospero Hall - they really have a flair for these franchise games. They manage some really interesting things that capture key aspects of the show or movie while keeping the difficulty level fairly accessible to a broader audience.
Outside of all this, I have some ongoing laptop issues, but I'm going to save sharing the details of my technology frustrations for tomorrow or something.
