02F77: Still Settling In

Wednesday - Tahanan Lunch

I'm finally at a point where I feel like I've cleared all of my major pending items dating back to last week. Nothing was overly late, but there was a clear juggle to have to weigh my priorities day after day while I worked on squaring things away. But it only took me like two weeks to get past the feeling of forever catching up. As much as there will be new things that will require my attention tomorrow, today I get to rest easy.

Over the past year, we tried eating at different nearby establishments in the hopes of finding a good place for Korean food like Tang or Sariwon in BGC. And despite the many nearby Korean places we've eaten at, none have been quite as satisfying. The one Korean barbecue buffet place we tried had some potential, except that the night we ate there, they had run out of lettuce and had failed to mention that before we sat down. It's a whole thing. Ironically, the most satisfying Korean food we've had in the area has been at Happilee at SM BF, and this is hardly a fully authentic Korean experience. But it has proven to be good value for money and quite accessible, so it makes for good pre-grocery dinner fare.

We have found some nice Japanese places to eat at, which is comforting. But it's hard to eat Japanese in a manner that is fully keto, which is something that I have more experience managing (hence the need for unlimited lettuce). Happilee is hardly a keto-friendly Korean option, but we'll see. There are still a few more Korean places that we've yet to find the time (or the gumption) to try. At this point, we're mostly wary of more disappointment.

The other week, we tried Pizzamaru, a Korean pizza chain that has a branch in BF. The food was okay, but the more interesting Korean-forward items were no longer available, supposedly due to lack of interesst accordingy to the staff. And just yesterday, we finally tried this small Japanese place simply called Ramen & Gyoza, as we figured that it might be a fun find, as we could never find parking the other times we passed by. The food was super cheap and certainly felt like it was worth what we paid. But that said, ramen that costs less than PHP200 can't be that great - and it wasn't.

We've been here for over a year, and it still feels like we're trying to find places that we want to "adopt" to become our favorites or usual haunts of a sort. The search continues.

Also, it's my dead father's birthday today.
