We've only finished 17 out of 25 episodes of Boys Over Flowers, and it feels like FOREVER. If we were the sort of people who junked shows that weren't working for them, we would have dropped this show a long time ago. This late in the story, and we still aren't rooting for the lead characters to get together. Is the need to follow the source material what has held this show back? Or do people really go for such terrible pairings? But we only have a little more to go before it's all over, and then we can move on to a different K-Drama.
On the flip side, I've been making Tobie and me watch whatever movies are leaving Netflix soon. This has resulted in us watching some old award winners like Sideways and The Terminal, old guilty pleasures like Sydney White, and a random horror thing like Late Night with the Devil, and some real stinkers like Good Luck Chuck. We can start another English-language series to follow (although we still haven't finished up with House), but I'm not quite sure what to dive into next just yet.
Netflix is the only streaming service we're currently paying for, unless you want to count YouTube Premium. I've dropped Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, and we only turn on WOW Presents Plus when there's a new season of Drag Race Philippines, or we want to support a local queen during an international run. There's only so much content we can consume after work, and maintaining all platforms doesn't make sense. And whether we like it or not, Netflix consistently has the most value versus the others.
The current internet streaming environment is bizarre.
Beyond that, it's taking me a while to get through Shogun, but that's the nature of a thousand-page book. This is probably contributing to my feeling "stuck" in terms of our entertainment. We're watching the same drama, and I'm reading the same book. At least the book is great.
I still plan to (re-)read the full Asian Saga this quarter, but I think I need to juggle a few shorter books before I move on to the next book after Shogun. I just got the new Haruki Murakami book on sale, so that's a good next book to keep in the queue. We'll see how it goes.
