Last night's game night did not disappoint, given the generous spread of games that we got to play. We all got to learn some new games, but also got to enjoy some familiar ones that haven't been back on the table in a while.
We started the night with some lighter stuff, including the newly-arrived Tacta, the party game Ding!, and the bonkers push-your-luck game Incan Gold. Tactca was as visually impressive as I expected, but the gameplay was also quite tricky. I knew it was going to be a game that I'm not the best at, even if I love its table presence. Ding! was super cute but a little chaotic, as many party games are. And Incan Gold is Incan Gold. The fun of that game comes more from how some of our friends REALLY like push their luck against all odds.
Then we split into two groups to tackle heavier stuff. One table tackled Kanban EV, the revamped version of Vital Lacerda classic. Our table dove back into SETI. I really wanted to get into the Space Agencies expansion, but everyone who played with me was new to the game, so we kept the new organizations out of the setup. There were some expansion cards mixed into the main deck, but the manual of the expansion said the impact of this would be minimal. Our game took longer to finish, so the other side got to squeeze in a session of Bob Ross: Art of Chill while we got through our final rounds of SETI.
Our last game of the night with the remaining players was Emberleaf, a game with some really beautiful art, but it can be tricky in its own right. I realize that I still haven't managed to win this game after 3 total sessions, but I'll still be game to play it over and over again. There's still so much to discover about the game, and I've yet to figure out a consistent approach for doing well. Plus, the unique starting decks really give you unique paths to victory, at least initially.
Today, we had our online Pendragon RPG session that started later than initially planned. Tobie tried to let me sleep in more to make up for the morning stuff I had after game night, but we still had a pretty decent game despite all that and being down 1 player. This is our only active RPG campaign for now, while we figure out how to get our Horror on the Orient Express game back on track, so we have to make the most of things for now.
