02F6A: Weather Frustrations

Thursday - Tahanan Lunch

I had skipped washing clothes the past few days since the forecast has mentioned bits of rain amid not-quite sunny weather. It was quite hot yesterday, so it felt like the forecast wasn't quite spot on. Today it forecast a fair amount of sun, so I did a heavy load of shorts and pants. And because it was still relatively overcast, I added a short dryer cycle to the laundry to help things along. Of course, it started to drizzle in the middle of my cycle and the rest of the day felt rather gloomy. I got the clothes most of the way dry, but I didn't quite get the full afternoon sun I was hoping for. And as the sun set it started to rain, so there was one last mad dash to get everything safely indoors and in front of the electric fan.

I've started the new ready with (mostly) a re-read of James Clavell's Asian Saga starting with Shogun. I had really enjoyed this book in my younger years, and while it's still a solid read, I can see how it hasn't aged as well as it could. As much as it is a labor of love with a sincere effort to tell these stories of historical Asia, there's also no getting around how this are books about Asia written by a white person. So take that as you will.

Also, these books are so LONG. But it's January and the start of a new reading challenge for me, so I get to fall a little behind for now. Plus, I had finished the family book club title before the end of last year, so that has left me with a bit of wiggle room in terms of what limited free time I have for reading. Good stuff.

Let's hope for better weather tomorrow and a good amount of reading after work. Or something.
