Work was kinda blah since I spent most of the day working on reports, so let's talk about something else entirely.
After watching too many TikTok videos of dentists rating different methods of cleaning teeth, I finally got Tobie and me to make the transition to electric toothbrushes. I was first tempted to just get one machine and 2 brush heads, which would have been super practical. But I also wanted to make sure that we'd both still be able to brush our teeth properly whenever I'm in Singapore for work. So I bought two Oral-B iO3 electric toothbrushes during the 1.1 sale at the start of the month.
It has been a rather interesting change of pace. There's a bit of a learning curve when you switch to an electric toothbrush. I'm glad that this model comes with a pacer function because that gives you something to aim for. It's weird to think of your mouth in quadrants, but it also feels quite dentist-like. I've gotten a lot better at following the vibration prompts, but I still add in a bit of extra brushing for some annoying bits of tartar that now feel a lot more evident. At least I've reduced some of the coffee stains on the back of my front teeth.
I also ordered a water flosser, which arrived just today. It took me a while to figure out how it works and...it's weird? I was kinda hoping for something a bit more powerful, but I guess this is safe enough for now. I hope it helps dislodge some of the more persistent things in my mouth, but at the very least, it'll be a fun thing to floss with. And again, too many TikTok videos by dentists claim this is the better flossing method versus the little flossing sticks I've been using for some years now.
This all doesn't replace my need to go for a proper cleaning by a dentist...but maybe I can reduce some of the work so they don't tell me I need deep cleaning again and thus charge me extra. So many dentists ask if I smoke after looking at my teeth, and I have to sheepishly explain that I've never smoked, but I do have a lot of coffee.
Maybe all this counts as a new year's resolution of sorts? I've also lost one tooth, and I have non plans of losing another.
