02F63: New Year's Festivities

Thursday - Abad-Prado New Year's Eve

We all made it to midnight last night, and the 10-minute Rockwell fireworks display was quite impressive. I managed to record the whole thing with my phone, although the experience kinda strained my arm again.

Once things had settled, we had made our way to O Bar for more New Year's Eve celebrations, but this time with our friends and O Bar family. I thought the crowd level would be something similar to a typical Friday night. This was relatively true within the first hour, but things felt closer to a Saturday night once the show was fully underway. We had a good group of friends at the table, including some relatively new ones who were free for the night. The show was solid, and we had some good fun.

The "face" of the first O Bar night of the year has shifted over time, and I don't quite know if that becomes representative of what the rest of our O Bar roster will look like for the year. I've written a number of blog posts about our frustrations with finding people for the table for various O Bar event nights last year. I don't think we've reached a point where we have a more stable roster of reliable people to invite.

We once had a core group, but various real-life complications have made it harder for the core members to go regularly. We also have a somewhat broader "usual suspects" group, but only a few of them have actually been realistically regular over the past year. Then our "public" calls for people to join us at O Bar (this is usually a last resort) rarely yield results across our different social media platforms. Maybe we need to cast a wider net...or we accept that we'll only get smaller tables at O Bar moving forward. We'll see how things go in the coming weeks and months.

What a weird problem to have, yeah? But you know how seriously we take O Bar nights.

Happy New Year.
