02F5F: Long Games and an Unexpected Reunion

Sunday - Through the Ages

So last night's game night was suitably heavy as we only really played two big games. We had a session of ORBIT as a warm-up while waiting for the last player, but we mainly tackled two games for the rest of the night. The first one was Vital Lacerda's Lisboa, which we've only played a handful of times before. It had been long enough that we barely remembered the rules. So it was just as well that we had to teach it to two other players, as we all needed the walkthrough. Tobie won by a mile, but I at least put up a decent enough fight to come in second.

The second game was the equally vast Through the Ages. which is a game that we love a lot, despite how long it takes to teach and actually play. We started actually playing the game around 02:00am and finished around 07:00am, so yeah, it was pretty epic. I normally focus a lot on technology and augmenting my military strength with more "peaceful" alternative methods, such as special technologies or arenas. This time around, I started on a rather aggressive track, and that carried me through to win the game in the end.

That took a lot out of us, and we largely rested for most of the day. It was good that I had squeezed in two loads of laundry towards the end of our game, so I got things hung up to dry before going to bed for the first load, then I woke up midday to hang the second load.

We did venture out to Ayala Malls Manila Bay to pick up the gift, with purchase Shuttlepod, for the LEGO Star Trek Enterprise-D set, which a friend had helped secure for us. It was our first time at the mall, but it wasn't too difficult to get to, largely because of the link between the Skyway and NAIAX. Getting the GWP was actually quite painless, and we got to spend some time admiring the rather impressive inventory at the official LEGO store there.

We figured that we might as well get dinner while we were there, and ended up going around trying to get tables at the different restaurants, but we were unwilling to wait. Our first consideration had been Italianni's, which I had initially avoided since we have a branch at the nearby SM BF. But all other players had crazy table queues, so we ended up back there. And this rather worked out for the best, since it turns out that one of the former O Bar staff was now assigned there as the manager. So that made for some fun catching up over dinner, and clearly the staff were trying to treat us like VIPs.

It's funny how we ended up there despite our initial efforts to find somewhere else to eat. Tobie and I do live a bit of a charmed life at times.
