It turns out we got pretty lucky with the traffic in our area when we went out to O Bar on Thursday and Friday night. Even when we went home early Saturday morning after Liberation, things weren't too crazy. But by the afternoon, Sucat Road traffic was kinda bonkers, and it added a layer of difficulty for friends coming over for games. We still got to play - but they had to wade through the cemetery-related traffic on the way over first.
We played a good mix of games during the night. Our warm-up game was A Place for All My Books (Amazon affiliate link), a medium-weight game that really embraces its core theme of introverts collecting books. The tricky mechanic of balancing your time in your home versus venturing out into town to get more books is greatly flavorful, even if there's a fair amount of luck involved, given the randomness of the available Little Project cards and the fact that books are drawn from a blind bag.
After our dinner break, accompanied by another episode of Business Proposal, we dove right back in with Lost Ruins of Arnak (Amazon affiliate link), including the Twisted Paths (Amazon affiliate link) additions that came with the Adventure Chest. We tried the Owl Temple, and the changes in the flow of things really made for a more challenging game experience. The fact that even one of the campsites gives fear cards just speaks to the overall level of difficulty. We followed that up with Moving Wild (Amazon Affiliate link), a crazy little card-drafting game by the wonderful folks at Oink Games.
When it was down to just three of us, we sort of shifted the tone of the games. We went through Escape Room in a Box: Flashback, which had some awkward moments, but was a decent game experience overall. And then our final game of the night was Prêt-à-Porter (Amazon affiliate link), a revived classic given that we played the third edition. It was still a lot of fun, although my finances got pretty tight mid-game. I'll aim for a better run next time, maybe.
We just stayed in today and just been leaving Netflix playing while we catch up on things. With Sucat Road still glaringly red traffic-wise as per Google Maps and Waze, it's prudent for us not to leave the immediate area. Even food delivery riders are having challenges getting around the area, so that says a lot.
I hope you've all had a meaningful weekend, once way or another.
