02EF9: Need More Windtraps

Wednesday - Tahanan Sinigang

So we had a weird power situation at the Sietch tonight. I was reheating stuff for dinner when I got distracted by the sound of the UPS unit in the bedroom beeping. When I went to investigate, it took a while for us to realize that most of the power outlets, including that bedroom socket, were dead. We had to dig our way to the circuit box, which was behind a wall of Transformers and Star Trek collectibles. But when we got to it, none of the fuses were in the OFF position, which is what you expect to happen when something trips. I cycled through all of them, but the outlets remained dead.

It took a while to get an electrician to come over, given the time, but thankfully, the village had someone to send over.  He went through the same cycling I did and double-checked the circuit boxes in the main house just to be sure as well. Everything looked good there, so he finally opened up the Sietch circuit box and did more extensive testing and determined that it was the whole breaker tied to the outlets that had died and needed replacing. Maybe it was supposed to trip because of a power situation, but failed entirely instead. We'll need to get the replacement, then schedule time with the electrician later in the week, so things aren't fully resolved. We did arrange for a workaround, and the outlets are running through the circuit reserved for the bedroom AC unit, which we haven't really used since we moved here.

At least we don't need to make alternate sleeping arrangements for the night, and we won't have to work out of the main house tomorrow. Getting the replacement breaker is the easy part, as it sounds like the electrician has a busy schedule tomorrow. We'll survive for now, but I'm going to keep thinking about the breaker situation until things are fully resolved. I'm just glad things got resolved (for now). It would have been crazier if the electrician hadn't been able to figure out what went wrong.

I hope your Wednesday has been less eventful.
