02EE8: Celebrations - Part 3

Sunday - Happy Birthday

Health Update: I'm actually typing this blog post with both hands. While I'm still unable to life my upper arm beyond maybe 15 degrees, I have regained the ability to bend at the elbow, thus being able to type and actually use paired utensils again. It's not perfect - I can feel a bit of pinching in my shoulder if I go full tilt, so I'm not getting too eager. I'm keeping my mouse on the left side for now since I'm afraid that trying to manipulate it with my right hand will be beyond my current range of motion. But this is tremendous. I didn't even need my sling while sleeping since it actually felt a bit more uncomfortable with it on. I still need to keep it raised with a bolster, but I'll count this as a win.

Yesterday's game night was a lot of fun despite some challenges for players to get to the host's home. There were some crazy rains, primarily in Quezon City, that resulted in some insane flooding. So it was a gift that many friends still made it, and we had a good time together.

We had brought a significant number of big genre games, but ended up playing a mix of everyone's games. The roster includes the likes of Muffin Time, Rebel Princess, House of Fado, Finspan, Kittin, and finally Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game. The last one was something I had seriously missed playing since not many of our gaming friends are familiar with the franchise. So it was great to get it to the table again, even though it took quite a while to get through the game. I ended up being one of two Cylons in the game, and we managed to win by depleting the population to zero. We also got to playtest a local game, but we can't talk about that in detail until it gets released. Secrets!

It has been a gloomy Sunday given the weather. I ended up sleeping through today's family book club meeting, so I'll need to catch up during the next session. Tobie and I did step out for lunch and finally got to try Flock, a Singaporean restaurant in the area. They definitely tried to elevate classic dishes like chicken rice with a more refined flavor to things. I think Tiong Bahru has stronger flavors, but this experience was still interesting. I was a little confused by their coffee menu since the drinks tasted more Western than Singaporean, but the drinks were pretty good all the same. We might go again for particular dishes, but the prices feel a bit too much versus what we were getting with some dishes.

Beyond that, we're just chilling at the Sietch. I've already unboxed and sleeved the copy of Flip 7 that our gaming group gave as a birthday gift. And then I just finished opening up and re-packaging all of our Lost Ruins of Arnak content in the new Adventure Chest storage solution that arrived this week. I do love an all-in-one way to gather all the content for any particular game.

It has been a good birthday weekend, indeed.
