02EE3: Some Improvement

Tuesday - Magic: The Gathering Doctor Who

Another day, another dictated blog post because my right arm is still out of commission.

So I barely got sleep last night cause I had a difficult time finding a comfortable position again. I started on the couch and then shifted into the bedroom to try to sleep on my side, but ended up back on the couch a few hours later. So…it was not a fun night. Throw in the drowsy effects of my muscle relaxant, and it was a bit of a struggle to get through work. How am I going to sleep tonight?

I was back-to-back in meetings today, so there really wasn't an opportunity to step out to get an in-person check-up.  Plus, this marks the first time I tried to navigate our current HMO and my first time trying to figure out health options in the south.  It took some back and forth and several confused phone calls, but I finally secured an appointment with an orthopedic doctor tomorrow.  I was happy with how quick it was to process the LOA via the HMO mobile app, so that was a win. I have filed a half-day leave for tomorrow so that I can focus on seeing the doctor in the afternoon.

I almost didn't bother trying to set an appointment because I must admit I am feeling somewhat better today than yesterday. I still can't raise my right arm, but at least it isn't as painful or as sensitive to touch. Thus, the prudent option remains to see a medical professional just to make sure we're on the right track.

Through all of this, Tobie has been amazing at augmenting my lack of a second arm.  My inability to manipulate utensils has resulted in a lot of fast food takeout for meals, but I'll get back to cooking once I'm fully functional again.

In lighter news, I have managed to reconfigure three of our Doctor Who pre-con commander decks into a single all-Doctors commander deck. It's not the most tactical or strategic deck; it's really all thematic, but it's quite fun to play just because I have so many notable characters in it. Our next formal commander night won't be until next month, and I'm really looking forward to giving this a spin. Tobie and I have been playing a few one-on-one matches the past few nights, and it's fun. The deck will not consistently win or even get enough mana out, but it's still fun to play.

Regardless of the status of my right arm, I suppose I am ready for my birthday. I have already pre-ordered my own birthday cakes (plural!), and they should arrive tomorrow, so that's something, right?
