02ED7: Successful Sharing

Thursday - Lakbay Likha Team

We survived the actual event day! Despite yesterday's scheduling complications, the condensed program went pretty well and had a good number of participants in attendance, so that feels like a good indicator of success. I joined Tobie at the event venue and at least got to listen to most of the talks, including Tobie's workshop, all while still getting through a regular work day.

It's a lot of work to stage events like this in different provinces, but you can totally see value they bring to these young creators also hoping for a shot at something greater. Today's event was held at a local university, and there were some pretty impressive kids who at least have the drive and passion to put themselves out there. I really hope today's talks were helpful to them.

Naturally, the organizers are already poking fun that they're expecting me to conduct a talk during their next roadshow, but admittedly I'm not entirely against the idea. I recently mentioned to Tobie that I missed participating in group project judging panels as I got to help out a friend teaching a digital marketing course during the lockdown period. The restrictions meant it was possible for me to dial in as a Zoom participant instead of being in the room with the students.

Maybe it's the trainer in me missing the experience of sharing what I know with more people. I still get to do this to some degree within my Operations role, but it's a little different when you're more focused on HR things versus just sharing knowledge. I just feel like a bit of the odd man out as the main group driving this is SIKAP, which is about independent creators and I still feel pretty corporate or at least the digital marketing function primarily works for larger brands. There's probably a way to tailor something more for independent creators given they are ultimately entrepreneurs and just need a better foundation in what running your creative efforts as a business means.

Anyway, that's mostly a wrap for Pangasinan. We head back to Manila on the morning but I foresee probably needing to take the afternoon off as well depending on the traffic situation. We have a ride back to Quezon City at least, then we'll need to map out our route back to Paranque before we're actually home.
