02ED3: End-of-Weekend Game Log

Sunday - Emberleaf

Last night's game session was a fun exploration of a lot of relatively newer games - or at least new to our collection. The full roster of games consisted of Rebel Princess, House of Fado, Transgalactica, Sushi Holic, 13 Animals, Emberleaf, and finally Mini Crimes: Like Cat and Mouse. I already talked about how happy I was to get Transgalactica to the table already in yesterday's blog post, but there are a few other things worth celebrating.

I knew Sushi Holic was going to be a very light game, given that it's really more about memory and luck. But I also predicted that it'll be some good, stupid fun, and our first playthrough certainly had us laughing a lot. It's a cute little game that makes for a fun experience. The other small game that proved to be particularly delightful was 13 Animals, which I didn't know too much about when I bought it, since I just like supporting Singaporean game publisher Origame. But the fact that this game is actually an abstract version of mahjong that doesn't require strictly 4 players makes for a very amusing card game indeed.

This was our first playthrough of one of the Mini Crimes games, as Tobie had purchased a bunch of them from Miniature Market as part of some sale. It doesn't feel like the most robust mystery game that we've played, but we manage to get through it successfully with a decent enough score. We have at least 6 more scenarios to play through, so it'll be fun to explore the franchise.

Our RPG session for today didn't push through, but we knew this particular schedule was a bit tenuous given competing events some of the players had to deal with. So instead, we got a massage at the nearby spa that we've become regular patrons of and followed that with a hearty Japanese dinner. We originally wanted to try out a new restaurant further within BF, but we weren't able to get decent parking. Thankfully, our other Japanese restaurant had no parking issues, so we ended up there.

Then we retired to the Sietch to watch stuff on streaming while I finally got to start working on assembling Lego Soundwave. It's a decent enough end of this weekend.
