I've been reading another series of books by Alexis Hall and every time I find a passage particularly entertaining, I end up reading it aloud to Tobie. I was doing it again over dinner earlier when Tobie suggested that I write as story based around and RPG system we had played before since it had the potential to have the same sort of eloquently witty language that I'm enjoying in this Recency-period series. It struck me as a rather quaint idea, but I didn't give it too much thought right away.
But as I worked my way through the book while eating, I was suddenly struck by an interesting opening for a chapter - or maybe a book? At the very least, it felt like a solid beginning and I hurriedly started a document and got the opening written down. The showed Tobie what I had written and he responded favorably to what little I had managed to write. It's nothing firm - it's not even a full story idea. It's just the beginning of a story, and I concede that I have a fair amount of experience with starting stories.
It was rather thrilling though - to feel that burst of inspiration. I kind of wanted to dictate voice memo to capture the idea faster, but we're still in the middle of a noisy restaurant, so that didn't feel like a good idea. So I did my best to craft this beginning of a story with just my phone. It was still a satisfying experience and hopefully I can find the fire to see this story through somehow. It might become something.
Beyond this moment of creative inspiration, the weather has been quite horrible. It's one thing to have rainy weather, as we have. But today has involved some pretty crazy shifts indeed. I'm used to sunnier mornings followed by rainy evenings. But today had us cycling through rain followed by sub followed by rain within a span of hours. I'm glad that I didn't risk washing a load of laundry today - that would have been disastrous.
I hope the weather gets better by the weekend. We already had to deal with heavy rains over Pride weekend and we totally deserve a break.
